UK Film Council

HMC Interactive were approached by the United Kingdom Film Council to create a custom interactive installation for an exclusive event celebrating the work of young filmmakers.

The invite-only event was held at The Gymnasium in London. HMC designed the installation especially for the space – making use of the architecture of the building to enhance the interactive experience.

The installation used four motion-controlled projectors mounted inside curtained enclosures. Each booth featured a selection of short films, created by young British filmmakers, which were projected onto the floor. Motion sensors in the ceiling let you change films by waving your hand left or right. This simple gesture system allowed users to create their own narratives by ‘cutting’ different scenes together.

Custom technology

HMC designed and built a self-contained motion-tracking system that could be installed in a confined space. Custom software was also written to create a sensitive gesture controlled interactive that would respond to people’s movements.

The result was an engaging interactive experience that became a real talking point for the evening.
